A braai for Orange king
The inauguration of the new king of the Netherlands will be celebrated as Knysna Royal Orange Day on Tuesday, April 30.
From 13:00 onwards, every Dutch, Belgian and South African can witness the inauguration of the new king on television screens. A special Simola braai buffet and live music will contribute to ensure this event is something special.
The Kingdom of the Netherlands has been governed by members of the House of Orange-Nassau since March 1815, when kings and queens became the heads of State in the Netherlands, albeit with well-defined and limited powers and responsibilities. This year Queen Beatrix celebrates her 75th birthday and this is one of the reasons she cited for her decision to abdicate and pass the throne to her eldest son, Prince Willem-Alexander. He will, accompanied by his consort, Princess Máxima, be inaugurated as King Willem-Alexander.
On April 30, this memorable event will be celebrated in a majestic way, not only in the Netherlands, but also in Knysna. All Dutch residents who live in and around Sedgefield, Knysna and Plettenberg Bay, as well as all Belgians, South Africans and those who feel a bond with the Netherlands are cordially invited to this special Knysna Royal Orange Day.
From 13:00 guests will be welcomed with an exclusive Orange drink at Simola Hotel, Country Club & Spa. At the reception one can further get acquainted with other residents while enjoying a presentation outlining 200 years of the Dutch monarchy. A direct transmission of the inauguration of the new king from the Nieuwe Kerk on the Dam in Amsterdam will be screened at 14:00. Following the inauguration ceremony, the Simola braai buffet and live music by DaveyMac will set the celebratory tone. To add to the fun, the most originally dressed Orange lady and gentleman will be selected and win a lovely prize.
The entry fee for the event is R195 per person and tickets can be bought at all branches of Sotheby’s realty in Plettenberg Bay, Knysna and Sedgefield.
