Street to become massive water slide!

Slide The City is coming to South Africa and Knysna was chosen as one of the few cities and towns to slide into this extreme adventure.
Slide The City will visit seven cities around the country from December to February 2016 and host eight events in total.
On December 16, Vigilance Drive in Knysna will most probably be the main attraction of events in Knysna.
Three street blocks in all selected Slide the City host cities and towns will be transformed into thrilling ride sites as participants use inflatables to skim at high speed down the huge 304m-long waterslide, made of slippery, durable vinyl.
Food, music and fun activities will be on offer all along the way.
As an official franchisee, the slide complies with the safety requirements and municipal regulations of each host city. Children must be taller than 1.2m to slide. Don’t miss out on South Africa’s most sought-after summer slide,” said Deidre de Lange, spokesperson for Slide The City.
Ticket sales for South Africa’s first Slide The City, presented by Huisgenoot, YOU and DRUM in partnership with Nedbank, opened on September 4 already.
“Adrenaline junkies and slide enthusiasts are advised to book early to be guaranteed a chance of experiencing the ride of their life. A single slide costs R99 with tickets for three slides at R250 and the Super Slider pass offering unlimited access at R490. Tickets are sold in two-hour slots to avoid overcrowding.”
Tickets are available from Computicket outlets. Visit www.slidethecitysa.co.za for more information.
Knysna municipal manager Grant Easton said in response to the announcement of Slide The City’s visit to Knysna: “It’s brilliant. It reinforces Knysna as a top holiday destination and it’s a fun event for people.”
Of the municipality’s involvement, Easton said: “The municipality gets involved through our events committee, which deals with safety issues and then the normal road closures if and where appropriate.”
Minette Ferreira, general manager of Weekly Magazines at Media24, said, “This is the first time a slide of this size has been brought to Africa and we’re very excited to be the official and exclusive franchise holder of these events. What better way to have fun this summer than sliding through our wonderful cities. Slide The City has seen massive growth since it started in 2014 in the United States and we have no doubt it will be the same here in Africa.”
“Slide The City is a one-of-a-kind experience that’s sure to be a highlight on the summer calendar in each of the host cities. The event affords us an opportunity to bring together families and residents from diverse communities and make the things that really matter happen,” says Vanessa Singh: executive head for retail and business banking marketing at Nedbank.
We’re delighted to be part of this groundbreaking initiative. This is truly a one-of-a-kind experience that’s set to rock South Africa.”
Singh says Slide The City supports Nedbank’s vision of sustainability and that the water used during this period will be conserved in consultation with the various host cities. “In keeping with its client-centred approach, Nedbank will offer a digital experience in the various locations to make it easy for clients to do their banking in a convenient and secure environment.”
