Sedgefield Easter Pilgrimage 2017
As a feature of Sedgefield’s Slow Festival (14- 16 April), an ecumenical co-operation of eight local church denominations – SEDGEFIELD ONE – will be staging The Way of the Cross 2017 Easter Pilgrimage.
For the third successive year, everyone is invited to come and experience an Easter message as the eight churches play host to people, walking or driving along the 3.5km route from Sedgefield central and into Smutsville. The 2017 pilgrimage theme is “The Jesus Table – Taste and see that the Lord is good” (Ps. 34:8)
Small portions of biblical foods are being introduced this year, complementing each venue’s part of the story, and adding a new and exciting dimension to the pilgrimage experience. Each church along the route will offer physical and spiritual food, and there will be opportunities to share in ‘table fellowship’ with others.
The pilgrimage route will be open on Thursday 13th April 2pm – 6pm, Friday 14th April 2pm – 6pm and Saturday 15th April 11am – 6pm.
There will be an information and registration point on the Village Green where Pilgrims Passports can be obtained for a donation of R10 per passport (individual or family passport). As foretaste of the “Promised land” to which Pilgrims will be traveling, milk and honey may be sampled. Passports will also be available at the Sedgefield Tourism office and also at Sedgefield Christian Church, the first venue of the pilgrimage. They will be hosting the “First Passover – A meal in haste”!
Pilgrims are encouraged to walk at least part of the route. However, there will be complimentary transport provided between venues and back to the start (Sedgefield Christian Church N2).
Children are very welcome on the pilgrimage – it is an excellent opportunity for parents and grandparents to share the Easter story with them.
The Pilgrimage welcomes people of other faiths, and people who are simply curious about Easter, people who have questions and people who would like to deepen their personal faith – everyone is welcome. And if you have read this far – we hope to be welcoming you!
