Art festival to draw world class shows
The Knysna Arts Festival from October 7 to 10 will be drawing top shows that first appeared at the National Arts Festival in Grahamstown as well as performers who’ve appeared on stages around the world.
Small town audiences seldom get to see the range and quality of the shows and performers that have been signed up for this year’s Knysna Arts Festival said CEO of Tourism, Greg Vogt.
“It’s going to be a long weekend of real ‘displays brilliance’,” said Vogt, CEO of the town’s destination marketing organisation, Knysna & Partners.
He said that the Festival programme also includes nearly 40 exhibitions and demonstrations by well-known painters, potters and photographers, visits to unusual places of interest that aren’t usually open to the public like The Knysna Basin Project’s environmental laboratory, the Knysna Yacht Company and participatory experiences like a guided walk through the historical old part of town and an inspiring photo walk around Leisure Island.
Explaining the Festival’s slogan, ‘displays of brilliance’, he said that “The iconic red flash on the wings of the Knysna loerie is the perfect visualisation of the genius of the talent that will be on show next weekend.
‘An arm for Nadine – From Cat with Love,’ starring Cat Simoni, the ‘South-Africa-London girl with the golden voice, whose repertoire includes all-time favourites from the likes of Andrew Lloyd-Webber, Cole Porter, Sade and Edith Piaf, will help raise finance for a prosthesis for local resident Nadine Rodeom, who lost her arm after she was attacked by a dog.
