Mountain biking in Jeffreys Bay
Jeffreys Bay offers exciting guided mountain biking for the young and the young at heart.
There are various routes you can explore from waterfall trips to game farms, giving you the opportunity to experience wild life up close and personal.
Misty Mountain Reserve
In the Tsitiskamma Forest, which is about 90kms from Jeffreys Bay, you can find the Misty Mountain Reserve which offers 4 very well marked trails that span across their grounds and link together trails in the South African National Parks Tsitsikamma indigenous forests with trails in the MTO Pine Plantations.
You can look forward to breathtaking sea views and forestry.
Longmore Forest Eastern MTB Route
The Longmore Forest Eastern MTB Route is situated on the R334 East of Jeffreys Bay towards Uitenhage. This route follows gravel roads, forestry roads and fire breaks in the pine plantation.
There are no flats in Longmore, so if you are looking for a more challenging off road trail, then the Longmore Forest Mountain biking trails are for you!
Trans Baviaans Mountain Bike Route
The Trans Baviaans Mountain Bike Route which is the Longest Single Day MTB Race in the World covering 225km of gravel. This route starts at Willowmore in the Karoo and ends in Jeffreys Bay.
This is a extremely punishing route with deep-seated downhills and awkward river crossings.
That being said, there is no better way to experience the Baviaans Kloof and the breathtaking citrus valley of Patensie. Finishing in Jeffreys with its magnificent Bay will be the end to a testing but exhilarating biking experience.
Getting there
- Misty Mountain Reserve
From the N2 in the Tsitsikamma between Plettenberg Bay and Jeffreys Bay This turn-off sits between the Petro Port and the Tsitsikamma Lodge look for the Blue Lillies Bush turnoff and follow that road +/- 1.6km then you turn right onto a sand road for +/- 4.5 kms and follow the Misty Mountain signs.
You will find the Misty Mountain reserve here which boasts amazing accommodation, good food, great mountain biking trails and all this wrapped up in the Tsitsikamma forest.

- Longmore Forest Eastern MTB Route
From Port Elizabeth follow the N2 and head West toward Cape Town. About 23km outside Port Elizabeth take the R102 turn off to Uitenhage, and turn toward Uitenhage (North). Then after 4.5km the road will fork – take the left fork onto the R334 again toward Uitenhage. About 2.6km after the fork you will see a small gravel turn-off to the left. There is a sign board for Culturama. Follow this road for 2km to the Longmore Forestry gate.
Entry permit is required which you can purchase from CycloPro in Port Elizabeth for R10.

- Trans Baviaans Mountain Bike Route
The start of this route is just outside Willowmore, 80km North of Plettenberg Bay. The easiest way to get to Willowmore from Jeffreys is along the R62 through Joubertina and then just past Uniondale.
