JBU Supertrial enters waiting period today
The waiting period for the JBU Supertrial presented by RVCA opens today, and will stay open until 12 June. At this stage the forecast is looking good, with two storms being tracked for later in the waiting period.
Spike from Wavescape is the official swell forecaster, and gave a brief summary. “We are watching two storms in the waiting period that we hope will deliver a powerful swell worthy of the contest, although a very south-placed high pressure system has been messing a bit with the development of the type of storms we need.” said Spike.
“We will be watching these two storms closely for a possible upgrade over the next few days.”
The event organisers are hoping for a pumping day at Supers, and the first 12 days of June is historically a good swell window.
With a wild-card into the World Surf League’s JBay Open Championship Tour event as first prize, the 24 invited surfers are all excited about the running of the event, and are keen to get going.
The event is all about surf however, and contestants will wait the first few days out.
All competitors are reminded that there will be an opening function for the JBU Supertrial at the @Work Sports Bar venue on Da Gama Road on Wednesday 01 June at 6:30 PM.
It is a social evening, and the event organisers will present the event format, as well as host the heat draw.
There is no official alternate list, but should a slot become available, it could be open to anyone who is present on the day and who really wants to surf.
The contest organisers will make the decisions on the day as to which of these surfers possibly get a chance to surf in the tournament.
The JBU Supertrial forms part of the JBay Winterfest, the sporting and music festival that will take place in Jeffreys Bay from 6-17 July.
The JBU Supertrial is presented by RVCA. Co-sponsors include Monster Energy, Stance, and Oakley.
