Click to read about the History of Jeffreys Bay

Set against a backdrop of majestic mountains, this beautiful bay provides South Africans and overseas visitors with an affordable seaside holiday and the ideal base to explore the surrounding country side – The Addo Elephant National Park boasting the big 7, Tsitsikamma Forest Reserve, Baviaans Wilderness Reserve, the fertile Gamtoos River Valley and top class game reserves are all within 2 hours drive – allowing you to combine the best of the beach, with the best of the bush.

In search of the perfect wave? Surfers from all over the world regard Jeffreys Bay as one of the top ten surfing destinations with arguably the best right hand point break in the world. When the wind’s off shore and the wave’s right, Supertubes is the stuff of legends – both for surfers and spectators. The ASP International Billabong Pro surf contest is held here every winter.

J-bay is a surfers Paradise

After some fun in the sun? Shell-laden beaches, white sand and moderate temperatures all year round, means there’s ample opportunity to catch some sun and swim in our warm waters. Dolphins are seen almost daily and whales come into the bay to calve between May and August.

Need to unwind in nature? Jeffreys Bay is bordered on both sides by nature reserves with another bisecting the town. These vital green belts, although small in size are a haven for birds and small game and offer peace and tranquility to those who choose to escape the daily hustle and bustle.

Looking for adventure? Head outdoors for some action adventure… besides surfing, there’s sand boarding, angling (rock, deep-sea, river, beach), scuba diving, kite surfing, sea kayaking, kloofing, mountain biking, bird watching, game-viewing and horse-riding. Kids will love the supertube water slide, putt-putt and quad rides at Dolphin Beach.

Wanna shop till you drop? J-Bay is famous for surf shops and arts and crafts. You’re sure to find whatever you need at the various shopping centers but bargain hunters head straight for the factory shops at the start of Da Gama Road. The J-Bay Surf Village is located here and is a good place to browse for handcrafts – curious, gifts, leather work, shoes, décor and jewelry.

Where’s the party at? Absorb the surf village, seaside vibe… J-Bay has a good selection of restaurants, pubs and entertainment venues. You can listen to live music, watch sport on a big screen, boogie at a night club, grab a take away or enjoy fine dining.

What else? Visit the J-Bay Surf Museum with its collection of memorabilia of interest of surfers and non-surfers alike, housed at 24 Da Gama Road. The Shell Museum, alongside the Tourism office, showcases rare and exquisite shells collected over the past century.
