Villiersdorp is the pearl of the Overberg. It is a place to unwind and enjoy the outdoors. The streets are lined with oak tree’s and in winter the mountains are dusted with fine snow.There are plenty of outdoor activities and things to do in Villiersdorp.
The area just like Elgin and Grabouw are producers of apples, pears, apricots and peaches. Visitors to the area also have access to many of the surrounding wine farms in Villiersdorp. This charming town offers tractor rides through the various fruit farms for those looking to entertain the kiddies.
Probably the most popular aspect of the town is the Theewaterskloof Dam. It is the 7th largest dam in South Africa. The dam offers you the opportunity to partake in leisure cruises, fishing and all other water sports. If you are not fond of the water then test your golfing skills on the Theewaterskloof, 9 hole golf course positioned right alongside the dam.
There is also an alpaca farm that you can visit, please note that an appointment needs to be made before visiting. The farm produces wool from these beautiful animals, all production activities take place on the Helderstroom Farm. Visitors are encouraged to touch, feel and interact with the alpaca’s.
For the adventurous there is the Kroonland 4×4 track, Akkedis Mountain hiking trails and Akkedis Mountain bike trails in Villiersdorp. Villiersdorp is also home to the Dagbreek Museum, built in 1845 and declared a national monument in 1994. There is also the Tractor Museum in Kelkiewyn to visit.
Craft people would be pleased to know that Villiersdorp are the leaders in the painting course concept. The courses are conducted throughout the year at the Dale Elliot Art Gallery.
In the summer time guests can meander through the moonlight market and buy tasty, home baked treats. The warm summer climate in Villiersdorp will keep you and your family outdoors, even after the sun goes down!
