Beaches In Hermanus | Grotto Beach
Grotto is on the Voelklip side of Hermanus and is a big beach, the only blue flag beach in Hermanus.
A Sunset Stroll On The Beach…
A blue flag beach is an international award that is given to beaches that meet a set of standards and excellence regarding safety, amenities, cleanliness and environmental standards. Every two weeks the water is tested to ensure that the quality meets with international standards. You will have to pay an entrance fee but it is well worth it.
The beach is very big, with lots of space to accommodate the holiday crowds and tarred parking to go along with it. There 
are showers, changing rooms and bathrooms.
During the festive season, you can hire beach chairs and umbrellas, giving you that holiday feel. For those looking to braai, there is a grassy park with braai facilities, there might be a small fee to pay to make use of it but your kids will love the idea as there is plenty of space to run around.
Lifeguards are on duty at frequent spots as there is quite a stretch of beach. As Grotto is so big the wind does tend to 
pick up so make sure your umbrella is well planted.
This is one of the best beaches for your little ones to run around on and build sandcastles. Show them how to find white mussels by doing the jive in the sand.
The beach runs all the way through to the Kleinrivier Lagoon. The lagoon is a lovely spot for the little ones as they can wade 
around and look at the crabs. There are no currents or tides so it is relatively safe for them to swim in. You can also spot various marine birds like the flamingo, black oystercatchers, and seagulls.
The tides and currents tend to be quite strong on Grotto but there is no drop so you can safely wade out a comfortable distance from the shore. The waves aren’t great so not the best beach for surfers but if you looking to have an evening 
stroll or morning jog this is the beach for you.
There is a restaurant on the beach so if thirsty and hungry you won’t have to go far to fill your tummy.
