Rotary Way in Hermanus is the perfect place to take in the sweeping views of Hermanus and the neighbouring areas. Apart from the views and lush Fynbos avid whale watchers will be pleased to know that Rotary Way is a prime land based whale watching spot!
Birders can also head up Rotary Way in search of large birds of prey and other indigenous species. This area is rich in colour, scenery and vegetation so bring along your camera! Rotary Way is also the perfect spot for scenic hiking!
From the west you see areas of Hermanus such as Sandbaai and Zwelihile, far reaching areas like Onrus and Vermont are a bit further along.
Areas like Westcliff, Eastcliff, Hermanus Heights and central Hermanus are below the main lookout point.
To the east likes Voelklip, Kwaaiwater and Stanford, as well as all the magnificent beaches of Hermanus. De Kelders and Gansbaai lie further on in the distance.
The magnificent Hemel en Aarde Valley lies behind Rotary Way and home to some of the most prestigious wine estates in South Africa. The Hermanus Wine Route has something to offer everyone, local or visiting!
The road is tarred to the main lookout point, roughly 1.5 Km upon entering. The last stretch to the Hamilton Russell gate is gravel and home to a top paragliding spot.
Remember to stick to the designated paths allocated so as no to disturb the wildlife and trample the vegetation. Keep valuables safe in locked cars. Do not pick the flowers, they are beautiful but protected. One will find large pylons, please do not approach them as you will trigger their alarms and law enforcement will be sent out to inspect the cause.
