Thinking of taking a small break but do not want to venture to far from home? We have compiled the top 5 autumn breaks to take, just a stones throw from Hermanus. Each picturesque town has something unique to show you and for you to enjoy. What is great is that there is something for everybody, from those wanting a romantic break, to those wanting a family getaway!
- Napier
(Distance: 1 Hour, 74 Km’s)
An artistic little “dorpie” in the heart of the Overberg and farming region. The streets of Napier boast charm and character, the town has become known as the second Greyton. Food lovers would be happy to know that the town prides itself on slow cooked meals and has an assortment of farm stalls and local pit stops. Stop in at Kapula candles and be amazed at the assortment of handmade candles and wares on display, venture down to the Napier Brewery and sample some of the best crafted beer that S.A. has to offer. There are a few guest houses and B&B’s as well as accommodation on working farms. Jump in your car and take a drive to Arniston for a walk on the beach or just bask in the quiet surrounds.

- Greyton
(Distance: 1 Hour, 15 minutes – 84 Km’s)
A small town nestled alongside a stunning mountain range that is sprinkled with snow during the winter months. This picturesque town is home to breathtaking scenery and oak lined streets. The greatest way to explore is by bicycle or by foot so getting accommodation in town would be a good idea, not that the town is very big. Hiking is a key feature and you are encouraged to tackle any of the trails in the area, you won’t be disappointed. Greyton is also home to a handful of eateries with delicious, fresh fair served everyday, so come hungry!

- Robertson
(Distance: 2 Hours – 155 Km’s)
A small town with a tremendous heart! This quaint little country town has been around for over 150 years and considered one of the most beautiful towns there is in South Africa. Avid wine lovers are encouraged to visit and spend a weekend here as vineyards make up almost every backdrop of the town. Apart from the various wineries there are lots of outdoor activities to partake in and lovely restaurants to pass the time in.

- Stanford
(Distance: 20 Minutes – 23 Km’s)
Move away from the hustle and bustle of neighbouring Hermanus and set your heart on Stanford. If you are looking for a laid back holiday backed by a river and lush mountain range this is the place. There are lots of little side streets to explore, many of them sporting antique stores and great places to enjoy tasty treats. Outdoorsmen have the opportunity to fly fish, horse ride, hike, go great white shark cage diving and go wine tasting.

(Distance: 2 Hours, 15 minutes – 144 Km’s)
