School Back Pack Project – Make A Child Happy This Year!
Creating a love for learning!
In January 2013 Lianda Beyers Cronjé started a project in her capacity as Ward 4 Councillor to collect money for back packs filled with stationary and other necessities prescribed by the school for Grade-1 learners in Mt Pleasant Primary. In response to this request a total of R4 550 was collected which enabled her to buy 21 back packs and to fill them with stationary ranging from colouring pencils, erasers, glue and books to toilet paper, soap and tissues.
The project proved immensely successful and according to the coordinating Grade-1 teacher in Mt Pleasant Primary, Mrs Deborah Wehr, the fact that they could start their school career on the same footing as the other children, made a visible difference to the learners who benefited from the project.
Lianda would like to continue with the project this year and therefore wants to make an urgent request to all who would like to contribute to the project to pay an amount of R200 into the trust account that has been opened for this purpose.
She hopes to collect R6 000 this year which will enable her to buy and fill 30 back packs. The account will be handled by Mr Anton Coetzee, the Overstrand Speaker and he will also be provided with proof of payment for all purchases. The amount of R200 includes the cost of the back pack and the prescribed stationary and other necessities as well as a R10 donation to the Grade-1 teachers to buy durable plastic to cover the books. The Grade 1 teachers will identify the learners in each of the Grade-1 classes who will most benefit from the project and the back packs will be presented to Mt Pleasant Primary on Friday 18 January 2014.
Your contribution will certainly go a long way to make that first school day an adventurous and pleasure-filled day for children who would otherwise look on that first day as a humiliating beginning of a long and uphill struggle.

If there is one thing that this country should aim for, it is to educate our youth! A good start is to create a love-for-learning culture among the young ones.
