Controlling Those Calories…
We all have cravings, most of us have cravings every day! They can range from wanting something crispy to nibble on or to something rich and sweet like a chocolate. If you are like most people, you’ll probably find yourself in the queue at one of the shopping centres in Hermanus with either a bag of Lay’s in your hand or an Aero chocolate.
How do we go about getting what we want without the guilt and the calorie concern? Follow these simple steps below that will hopefully adjust the way you think about cravings and how to deal with them.
Craving – Sweets Or Chocolate
Deal with it: Chocolate pudding with a twist
Ingredients: 200g plain unsweetened & fat free yoghurt, 20g cocoa powder, 40g dark chocolate (must be 70% and up) handful of almonds, pinch of cinnamon and a dash of fat free milk.
Method: Mix cocoa and yoghurt together until it is well blended, If the texture is too thick add a dash of milk, crumble chocolate into pieces and add to the yoghurt, add almonds, place into the fridge until it has reached your desired temperature/thickness and enjoy!
Craving – Crispy Or Salty
Deal with it: Sweet potato chips
Ingredients: 500g of sweet potato and olive oil,
Method: Slice the sweet potatoes thinly, spread out evenly on a baking tray, drizzle with olive oil and roast at 220c or until the chips are crispy and golden.
Craving – Creamy And Rich
Deal with it: Healthy peanut butter cups
Ingredients: 50g of chocolate protein powder, 2 tbsp cocoa powder, 240ml almond or coconut milk, 12 tsp peanut butter.
Method: Mix all the ingredients together apart from the peanut butter, set aside for 5 minute, pour a thin layer (about 1cm) of mixture into 12 silicon muffin cup, top each with a teaspoon of peanut butter, top each peanut butter layer off with more protein mixture, freeze for an hour, remove from freezer and let set for a further 5 minutes before having them.
