5 Secret Spots Of Hermanus
We bring to you some hidden gems of Hermanus, perfect to escape to on those long lazy summer days.
Hermanus is filled with ton’s of beautiful beaches, cliff paths and its fair share of natural beauty but there are just some spots which remain hidden. These places make for the best picnic, swim and relaxation spots, many unknown to even long time locals.
Here they are, the top 5 secret spots of Hermanus…
Breakfast Bay
If you are looking for a more secluded spot come this summer then Breakfast Bay is for you. This little spot is on the boundary of the Vermont Nature Reserve and perfect for romantic picnics or family trips, where the kids can race up and down the sand dunes and splash in the small bay.
Davies Pool
Davies Pool is located in the Hermanus suburb of Onrus. It is not your typical swimming beach in that there is no sand bank to laze on, though there are stretches of grass where you can place your slip slips and what not. Davies Pool is right by the Onrus Campsite and is a great swim spot as the natural pool has a level bottom and there are no waves that break into the pool. Kids would have a ball with a set of goggles and flippers or fishing nets.
Marine Tidal Pool
Neatly tucked away at the foot of Marine Hotel and with a perfect view of Walker Bay it is no wonder that people love going down there for a swim. Tan along with the dassies and watch the whales breach from your sunny spot. The pool is quite large, well made and protected from the swell.
Lovers Cove
Lover’s Cove is a small secluded section of beach alongside the much larger Grotto Beach. One can easily squeeze past the large rock at low tide from Grotto’s side than to take the cliff path steps down. The cove is best at low tide and great for romantic picnics, hence the name lover’s cove!
Piet Se Bos
If you ever imagined what a fairy garden would look like, Piet se Bos would be it. It is a protected area that’s lush green canopy extends down to Grotto Beach. There is a large picnic come braai area, but one truly does not understand how beautiful the area is until you venture a little further into the forested area. There is a short boardwalk path that winds through and under the trees too.
Not just famous for its whales!
