Mandela Day 2014
67 Minutes
Friday the 18 July marked Nelson Mandela’s Birthday and what is now known as Mandela Day.
Hermanus locals gathered near and far to spend 67 minutes donating their time to charities and people in need.
Who did what!?
1 – Nourish Cafe donated blankets to the needy, all those who donated blankets got a free coffee! (Photo: Nourish Cafe)
2 – Hermanus Staan Saam helped people to carry their groceries outside of Gateway Spar, they dished out free hugs along with warm blankets and food to those in need!
3 – The Mayor rallied the troops of the Overstrand fire and rescue to help mow the lawn of the Zwelihle Creche.
4 – Marine Dynamics donated bakkie loads of firewood to the community of Gansbaai. (Photo: Marine Dynamics)
5 – The Mayor along with the municipality unveiled a beautiful mosaic mural of Nelson Mandela.
6 – The mosaic was created by two local artists.
7 – The commemorative plaque.
8 – The team from ShowMe Hermanus baked 67 peanut butter & choc chic cookies to hand out to the residents and staff of SOFCA frail care centre.
9 – Ward 3 councillor and the cliff path management team cleaned the cliff paths in front of the Windsor Hotel/ Gearings Point. The area is soon to undergo a massive alien vegetation clean up and play home to the first bio-diverse walk in Hermanus and surrounds.
10 – The team of the shark conservancy urged locals to pick up 67 pieces of trash along the cliff path and beach.
11 – The shark conservancy sorting through the rubbish, all trash collected was recorded as part of the SASC project.
