SA makes “impressive” bid for Rugby World Cup 2023
SA Rugby Union this week bid to host Rugby World Cup 2023 in a bid that has been described as “streets ahead”.
Writing in the Business Day author and sport writer Craig Ray said key elements of the bid included a low risk tournament in terms of security and financial exposure as well as a high earning yield.
According to Saru Chief Executive Jurie Roux, South Africa can SA host the most profitable World Cup and is able to produce the tournament at 50% of the cost of any of the European bids.
“If you look at price parity‚ we are one third of Europe. In other words‚ a tourist will be able to come to SA for three weeks for the equivalent cost of one week in Europe,” he is quoted as saying. “There is no compromise in quality because our hotel rooms are the same standard and double the size.”
