DA to challenge Eskom’s 25.3% tariff hike
The Democratic Alliance will deliver a memorandum to Public Enterprises Minister Lynne Brown on Wednesday (April 1st) in protest of Eskom’s proposed electricity tariff hike requests.
Mmusi Maimane, the DA’s parliamentary leader, said that the opposition party will not stand for the burden of Eskom’s mismanagement being placed on the shoulders of South Africans.
He will hand over the memorandum on the first day of the new 12.69% tariff increase. The increase will inevitably have a negative effect on cash-strapped consumers who are already struggling to make ends meet.
Maimane will be joined by the DA shadow minister of public enterprises Natasha Mazzone, DA shadow minister of energy Gordon Mackay, and DA Gauteng provincial chairperson Solly Msimanga.
