BROADWAY BOULEVARD OPENS QUIETLY
Work on Broadway Boulevard has finally come to completion, much to the relief of motorists and residents who have been inconvenienced by the lengthy period of construction.
Actualization of the road in Gordon’s Bay was deferred from mid-June to October, with delays due to adverse weather and the excavation of subsurface rocks for installation of a bulk stormwater system.
Though the Boulevard opened in a subdued manner to little fanfare, motorists will undoubtedly benefit from and enjoy the ease of access that has been created as a result of the project. For the first time one can drive from Gordon’s Bay to the Mall “as the crow flies“. There are now also three means of entry into Gordon’s Bay, the others being the accustomed routes of the N2 and Faure Marine Drive (R44).
It may take some time for motorists to adjust and make use of the new route, but it won’t be long before it becomes a staple of daily driving habits. The higher order link between Strand and Gordon’s Bay was much needed not only to assist with traffic congestion (especially at peak times) but also provide access to neighbouring developments and thereby relieve pressure on the local residential road network.
