Holiday fun for kids in the Helderberg
Looking for fun ways to keep the children occupied these school holidays? Here’s our pick of what’s happening in the Helderberg..
- The Winter Wonderland festival runs for the duration of the school holidays and is packed with amusements for all ages. A Ghost House and Fun Fair are just some of the many attractions on offer!
- There will be a special Winter Wonderland Beach Clean-up on Saturday, July 4th. Bring the kids to Gordon’s Bay and let them participate in beach conservation efforts first-hand.
- Strand Public Library has a Winter Holiday Programme which includes puppet shows, sewing workshops, painting and more – in addition to shelves filled with delightful stories. Email the library for details.
- Coach Kyle will be running a hockey clinic at Parel Vallei Astro Turf in the first week of July. Space is limited and registration essential.
- Movies are always a hit with the kids – especially animated or 3D features! Take them to see the latest film releases at Ster Kinekor Somerset Mall. The Mall also has a gaming arcade.
- The Eco-Rangers are hosting exciting craft and nature workshops from 6th – 10th July at the Helderberg Nature Reserve. Insect hotels and scavenger hunts await..
- Children (ages 7+) can own a pony/horse for a day! They will be shown how to take care of a horse and practice the basics of riding. Book with Journey’s End in Somerset West for either July 9th or July 16th
- Experience the excitement of a personal encounter with the world’s fastest land animals. Visit the Cheetah Outreach Project in Paardevlei.
- Meet the primates and other interesting wildlife at Monkey Town, which is just off the N2. There is entertainment for the whole family!
- Get the kids into the great outdoors with the Nature & Games Holiday Club at Helderberg Farm. Different activities are promised for each day, including hikes, river swings and story-telling.
