The all-star cast are back to party again – musical favourite Jarred Pitout (Annie) and rising star Nicolette Fernandez (Annie) take on the lead roles of Danny and Rizzo. David Shelver (The Great Gatsby) plays the role of slick veteran disc jockey Vince Fontaine, while Ann Walsh puts on in her sparkly shoes as Teen Angel. Joining the cast for the encore season is newcomer Elaina Mitchell in the role of the sweetheart Sandy. Sume Lotter (Spectrum, Annie) heads up choreography with Darryl Spijkers (Steel Magnolias, Annie, The Great Gatsby) on overall direction and staging. Helen Dooley (Annie, A Slice of Saturday Night) of the Shiraz band is the musical director.
Grease is a 1971 musical by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey with additional songs written by John Farrar. Named for the 1950s United States working-class youth subculture known as greasers, the musical is set in 1959 at fictional Rydell High School and follows ten teenagers as they navigate the complexities of peer pressure, politics, personal core values, and love. The score attempts to recreate the sounds of early 1950’s rock and roll. The show tackles such social issues as teenage pregnancy and gang violence; its themes include love, friendship, teenage rebellion, sexual exploration during adolescence, and, to some extent, class conflict.
These Summer Nights will have you a blast – don’t miss out! Tickets are available on Computicket and this show will be raising funds in aid of the Sunflower Fund. The show runs from 28 August to 12 September and tickets are R120 a seat. Like The Playhouse Somerset West on Facebook for updates.
