Winter Wonderland Festival of Lights | Gordon’s Bay 2013
Nestled on the slopes of the Hottentots Holland Mountains on the Whale Route, just 50 mins from Cape Town and a few minutes from the Winelands, the picturesque seaside village of Gordon’s Bay will again be transformed by sparkling white lights and festivity for the Winter Wonderland Festival of Lights from 28 to 30 June.
In celebration of winter, their ‘Secret Season’, when north-facing Gordon’s Bay is protected from the cold north-west wind, the festival lights will remain lit for the duration of the school holidays – 22 June to 22 July.
This year even more sparkling white lights will light up quaint shops, streets and houses creating a shining spectacle. A gigantic Winter Wonderland light display and snow man will welcome you while shining trees and sparkling snowflakes will lead you to the carnival atmosphere.
The new ‘Fairy Festival’ displays and stalls with enchanting characters will delight and alongside, the beautiful ‘Fairy Forest’ Milkwood Trees will twinkle, tempting the romantic to propose at the Lovers bench.
A new light-encrusted yacht light will entice you to sail on the ‘Fairy Ferries’ between the two decorated marinas to the romantic Harbour Bridge.
The carnival atmosphere will be buzzing
Bring families, friends, prams and dogs on leashes and stroll along the sparkling beachfront , alive with the sound of music and shrieks of delight from the colourful beach-front Fun Fair.
Enjoy wine tasting at the Old Cape Mall (in support of Rotary), browse through quaint shops, stop at stalls for warming Gluhwein, hot chocolate or delicious ‘food on the go’ (in support of Lions). Restaurants and pubs will celebrate with live bands and musicians and offer warming winter fare.
Party at the Music Fest Marquee, at ‘Melt-stock’, ‘Berties Mooring’, the Tavern and Yacht Club at the Old Harbour or enjoy the exceprional Art Exhibition, browse at the Craft Market and enjoy the Boat Show hosted by Super Crew who is an internationally accredited member of the Professional Yachting Association of France at the Harbour Island Waterfront .
On Sunday join celebrities at the Song and Praise Festival.
View the historical exhibition Gordons’ Bay ‘Then and Now’ at the NG Church Hall and at the historic NG Church local organists and choirs will entertain.
