From Sedgefield Schoolboy to PGA Winner
Once a Sedgefield schoolboy, now an internationally acclaimed golfer, Branden Grace is etching his name into the halls of pro-golfing with the weekend’s win on the PGA tour.
Taking on the demanding Links at Harbour Town for the RBC Heritage, Grace secured his win with a nine under par, a score worthy of a major tournament.
This is exactly where Grace has set his sights, with his plans to take on the US Open, this after he was in contention last year but lost with 2 strokes after an unfortunate double-bogey on the 16th hole of Chambers Bay.
The 2001 Sedgefield Primary graduate still has a firm set of roots in this area, through his parents’ Lourenza and Peter Grace, owners of Buffels Baai Restaurant, and since the twenty three year old Branden turned professional at the end of 2007, many locals have joined the Grace family in watching his rapid rise through the golfing ranks.
Having established his reputation and skill in the circuit, Grace, who is currently sponsored by Fancourt, will very likely claim more wins on the PGA tour. Says Lloyd Martindale, General Manager of Golf at Fancourt.
“This is a major breakthrough for Branden on the US Tour, being his maiden win. It now guarantees his full playing card for the next two years meaning he can now fully focus on playing and winning events, rather than trying to retain his card. We see incredible things on the horizon for Branden; watch out for him at the US Open and The Open later this year! We’re exceptionally proud of him.”
