Refreshed Chevrolet Captiva SUV
MOTORING NEWS –
General Motors South Africa has announced a styling and enhanced features package to refresh the Chevrolet Captiva SUV. The changes include an update to exterior styling, added convenience items and an extended list of factory-fitted options. The Captiva offers seating for seven and comprehensive safety features including six airbags – driver and front passenger frontal and side protection plus curtain side protection. In addition, there are comprehensive electronic driver aids including ABS and vehicle-stability control underlining the Captiva’s family-oriented role.
Styling tweaks across the Captiva range of 2,4 LT FWD (front-wheel drive) manual and automatic and the top of the range 2,2 LTZ AWD (all-wheel drive) models include a fresh treatment for the front bumper, fog lamp surrounds and grille. At the rear the update includes a revised rear bumper and exhaust outlets. Tail-lamps are more attractive, reliable and longer life LED units.
All three Captiva variants now feature a “touch-pad” lift gate mechanism and passenger seat belt warning.
Dual-zone climate control air conditioning is standard on the 2,2 LTZ AWD model and available as a factory-fitted option on the 2,4 LT manual and automatic models. The 2,2 LTZ has keyless entry and push-button starting as part of the passive entry passive start (PEPS) feature. Also included in the specification of this top-line model are illuminated door-sill covers that highlight the Captiva name.
An important safety item included in the 2,2 LTZ features list is a tyre-pressure warning indicator. The final drive ratio on the Captiva 2,2 LTZ has been revised to provide improved performance from rest.
Factory-fitted options available on the Captiva 2,4 LT manual and automatic include 18″ alloy wheels with a new fresh design, an electronic sun-roof and leather seats.
Customers for these two models can also specify a “luxury package” that adds dual-zone climate control air-conditioning and an on-board computer to the specification.
The Chevrolet Captiva is powered by either a 2,4-litre Ecotec engine with variable valve timing that produces 123kW and 230Nm of torque, or a common rail direct injection 2,2-litre diesel engine that produces 135kW with 400Nm of torque. Tests conducted by Chevrolet engineers indicate combined cycle fuel economy of 8,8l per 100km for the front wheel drive 2,4 litre model and a miserly 8,0l per 100km for the 2,2-litre diesel all-wheel drive model.
The Captiva 2,4 LT with front wheel drive is available with a choice of 6-speed manual transmission or 6-speed automatic with electronic control. The Captiva 2,2 LTZ has a 6-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission with on-demand four wheel drive.
