Graça Kreeffees Lambertsbaai will be held from the 21st till the 23rd of March 2014.
Join in the merriment at the annual Lambert’s Bay Crayfish Festival. Journey down to one of the West Coast’s most charming fishing villages for the 13th annual Lambertsbaai Kreeffees (Lambert’s Bay Crayfish Festival), a food and wine extravaganza. Only a two-hour drive from Cape Town (approximately 280km from the city centre), Lambert’s Bay is known as the Diamond of the West Coast and as Mzansi’s crayfish mecca.
What to expect at the 2014 Lambertbaai Kreeffees
Famed for its good ‘old-fashioned’ West Coast hospitality, the yearly crayfish fiesta pairs its small-town kindness with performances by some of Mzansi’s best Afrikaans musical artists, a range of stalls selling everything from clothing and jewellery to food and gifts and, of course, plenty of sweet and decadent crayfish! While this gourmet delicacy usually tips the scale in price at restaurants, the coveted crustaceans are available throughout the duration of the festival at ludicrously low prices, making a weekend of indulgence surprisingly affordable. And if that’s not enough to wet your appetite, there will also be numerous stalls selling a range of seafood fare, like snoek seafood potjies (a Cape Town treat), mussels, oysters, paella and more. For those of you who are looking for something out of the ordinary and delicious, try the twisted potato stick (also known as tornado fries) or one of “Ouma Se Broodjes” (which is said to be vinger-lek-lekker). After working up a thirst, visitors can head off to the “Festival Bar” (over 18s only please), which promises to keep the drinks and great vibe flowing. And if you need to keep the tykes busy, why not send them off to the “Kiddies Corner”, where the little ones can enjoy a host of activities, including puppet shows, a jumping castle, balloon modelling, treasure hunts and arts and crafts projects. Lastly, for those who like to get wet and wild, a crayfish diving and fish shooting” competition invites ardent divers and fishermen to compete for one of the great prizes on offer.
