Fishing at Chintsa, Eastern Cape

Fishing off a ski boat at Chintsa, Eastern CapeEast of the Chintsa River, the coastline is characterised by long, sandy beaches. Generally, the mouth of the river is closed, but fishing into the surf from the beaches generally produces good catches of kob. White steenbras and spotted grunter can also be caught here.

West of the river, the coastline changes to one that is dominated by rocky outcrops. Here, there are three well-known fishing spots: The Pegs, easily identified by a series of pegs in the rocks, is a deep-water spot that produces good catches of kob, shad and bronze bream; The Tidal Pool provides good access to deep water, which is good for kob and shad, and there are also a few gullies here which produce catches of blacktail, bronze bream, zebra fish and a variety of pan fish; Reef Point is a series of rocks with deep-water access that produces good catches of kob and a variety of pan fish.

Getting there: from East London, take the N2 going north, then turn off at the sign to Chintsa and follow the road into the town.
