Successful drive pays it forward
St Bernard’s annual copper drive was a huge success and Clarendon Interact Club supported the drive by collecting thousands of coins.
Recently St Bernards Hospice CEO Rene Wienekus attended a handover from Clarendon High School Interact Club as part of the annual St Bernard’s Hospice Copper Drive.
“St Bernard’s Hospice provides care and support to patients diagnosed with life threatening illnesses such as cancer, HIV/Aids, multi drug resistant TB, motor neuron diseases and multiple sclerosis, regardless of whether they can pay for the care or not.
“Because there is a huge portion of non-paying patients at St Bernard’s Hospice, we rely heavily on fund raising initiatives, such as the Copper Drive, to ensure the best possible care for our patients,” Wienekus said.
“St Bernard’s Hospice thanks the Clarendon High School Interact Club, students, teachers and parents for the wonderful support they have received.”
Interact Club Coordinator Marius Fourie says that they received an overwhelming response and they are happy they could help.
The response was incredible as thousands of coins were received, filling all of the 55 Copper Drive Hearts. The Interact Club managed to exceed their target and still had thousands of extra coins which would all be handed over to St Bernard’s Hospice.
The funds raised from the Clarendon High School Interact Club will be used for the transport costs of the professional nurses and carers who visit their patients in their homes and provide the needed care.
