Port’s anchor is back
East London Transnet Port Terminal manager Nelisiwe Mbenekazi recently attended a transport industry management programme in Japan, after being chosen by the Automotive Industry Development Centre.
Mbenekazi said she was excited as it was rare to find women leading in such industries, but that Transnet Port Terminals was a strong advocate for female managers to handle operations such as the East London port.
Mbenekazi was selected as part of the women empowerment programme that seeks to grow female leaders in the transport sector. Their training was under the auspices of the Overseas Human Resources and Industry Development Association.
She has already implemented some of the aspects she learnt on her trip, including problem solving, especially at lower level, in promoting future leadership and team work.
