South Africa issues fire warning
Disaster Management has issued a warning of runaway fires in parts of the country.
Tshwane Emergency services have echoed the call after finally putting out a veld fire in the Wallmansthal area north of Pretoria on Tuesday.
The fire destroyed seven buildings at the Aloe lodge in Downburn and damage runs into millions of rands.
Emergency services in Tshwane have dealt with 14 veld fires over the past two days, all fanned by strong winds.
The fire has been contained
Meanwhile, 45 patients have been evacuated from the Letaba hospital near Tzaneen in Limpopo after it caught fire on Monday.
The patients were transferred to other hospitals.
Limpopo’s Health MEC, Ishmael Kgetjepe says “The fire started in the psychiatric ward. It affected the maternity ward and paediatric ward. The fire has been contained. Nobody was injured.”
