Deputy Minister of Economic Development resigns
Economic Development Deputy Minister Enoch Godongwana has resigned to pursue personal interests after just less than two years on the job.
“He informed President Zuma of his intention early in December and the President asked him to stay on until mid-January. The President has accepted the resignation and thanked the deputy minister for his dedicated service and duty to his portfolio and to the National Executive in general,” the presidency said in a statement.
Mr Godongwana’s last day will be January 16.
President Zuma said the resignation was a huge loss given Mr Godongwana’s expertise, skills and experience.
Mr Godongwana chairs the ANC’s economic transformation committees – one of the most important committees in the ruling party.
He has been on the ANC’s National Executive Committee since 1997.
