A fighter needs to apply for the correct weight category by correct diet and dehydration:
- Straw Weight 52.27kg and below
- Fly Weight 52.3kg – 56.8kg
- Bantam Weight 56.82kg – 61.36kg
- Feather Weight 61.37kg – 65.90kg
- Light Weight 65.91kg – 70.45kg
- Welter Weight 70.45kg – 77.27kg
- Middle Weight 77.28kg – 84.09kg
- Light Heavy Weight 84.10 – 93.18kg
- Heavy Weight 93.19kg – 120.45kg
- Super Heavy Weight 120.46kg and above

It may take years for somebody to learn all the MMA techniques and even longer lo master. Fighters start out as amateurs “AFL” and slowly work their way up to becoming pro fighters “EFC” The fighters face on another in a cage “cage fighting” or otherwise known as the” Octagon” The MMA fighters fight with special gear depending on their weight categories and whether they are amateur or pro-fighters. These gear includes special training gloves known as ‘MMA gloves” and are designed in such a way to let the fighters out to help them grab and hold their opponent.
