Report water leaks for free
CITIZENS of the eThekwini will be able to report water leaks faster and without having to pay a cent since the Municipality and cell phone network, Cell C, have formed a partnership by creating a toll free line. Water and Sanitation Head, Neil Macleod said: “For a number of years, eThekwini has been negotiating with cell phone providers about the possibility of providing a tollfree cell phone service to EWS call centre.
Until now it has only been possible to provide a toll-free service to callers calling from fixed line telephones,” said Macleod. He said many customers were unwilling to use their precious airtime to report leaks at their expense if using a cell phone. Water leaks cost the Municipality more than R100 million a year. We have been trying to find a way to make it easier and cheaper for our customers to report leaks to us. Cell C is the only cell phone provider that has been able to offer this service to date and it is hoped that the other service providers will soon be able to follow and provide a similar facility to their customers. To report water leaks EWS customers can call the following number 080-1313-013.
