Pay it Forward for the Blind
The South African National Council for the Blind has endorsed our ‘little project’ that was started in our grade 8 classroom at Eden College and featured the project on their website and in their electronic newspaper. The senior Education manager for the Australian Northern Territories government has also endorsed it and distributed it across all schools and teachers in the region. The Pay it Forward Foundation (based in the USA and operating in 75 countries) endorsed the project and featured it on their website and forwarded an e-newsletter about it to all their members. The World Blind Union (representing 2,6 million members) has also responded and is currently drawing up a more detailed proposal. Many other national and international organisations have also shown support.
Check it out from the link below, and… please tell your friends about this opportunity of reading a short, simple story whilst recording it for the blind so they can also enjoy the tales.
Here are a number of reasons why YOU should consider reading and why you should also tell your friends:
• It will only take a couple of minutes (2 – 5 minutes) as the stories are so short (target market of 4 – 10 year-olds… simple books with lots of pictures).
• Anybody can read (the youngest so far is 5 years old from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA – and the oldest, reading in French, is 84 and is from White River, Mpumalanga).
• You may read in any language (9 languages on the site thus far with many more already in production).
• You can record using a mobile phone, laptop or PC.
• You can write your own story should you wish.
• You can collaborate and record with some friends.
• You can PAY IT FORWARD and challenge your friends to do it too, once you’ve risen to the challenge.
• It is great FUN!
• Consider the fact that Tape Aids for the Blind is still totally analogue (does not even send out CDs as yet) and that their main target market is adults.
Digital and in MP3 format makes it possible for blind children around the world to access these stories 24/7 and… for free!! Click here for more details
