SA CAN calls for safety this Christmas
This morning (27 November), Hirsch’s Hillcrest played host to a successful presentation by SA CAN founder, Brian Jones and SA Guardians & Community Safety NPC director, Kita Karg.
Brian shared a brief overview of what SA CAN is and how it operates, including the importance of our relationships with operational partners across the emergency service industry.
When Kita rose to speak, she told those gathered about the difficulties one faces after becoming the victim of a violent crime. This is a subject with which she is well acquainted, because her mother was one of the casualties of the Mooi River triple-murder, which occurred in July 2010.
“When confronted with a tragedy like this, your mind turns to mush and it becomes impossible to function normally. SA CAN is vitally important, because they are not emotionally involved and are therefore able to facilitate the proper response as quickly and efficiently as possible,” she explained.
Also in attendance were Derrick Banks and Paul Knoesen of ER24, one of SA CAN’s most integral partners. Brian offered a sincere vote of gratitude to these men and all those like them, who make the choice to sacrifice their own safety and comfort for the sake of others.
Brian ended the presentation by offering the group sponsored use of our Anytime, Anywhere, Anything Button for the duration of the festive season, and encouraged them to use it to assist not only themselves, but anyone in need.
“This location-based service is programmed directly into your cell phone’s speed-dial and as soon as you hit that button, we can see where you are and send immediate assistance, whether it’s medical or criminal in nature. Don’t hesitate to use it, particularly with the predicted rise in motor vehicle accidents over December and January,” he said.
