Lonehill Estate
LONEHILL ESTATE BIO
Lonehill Estate is one of the top live performing bands in South Africa. Tired of watching spectators bob their heads to dull rock songs at shows, the band set out to bring dancing back into the genre. The band successfully melded their rock sound to the contagious thump of dance music.
The band burst onto radio in 2005 with hit singles “Girl on a Roof” and “Skyward” charting on high rotation. In 2007 the band won “Best South African band” and represented South Africa in London at the Global Battle of the Bands. 2007’s December issue of Cosmopolitan Magazine named Lonehill Estate as one of the Bands to look out for.
In 2008 Lonehill Estate released their second studio album “Hong Kong Dollar” which featured the hit “Memories.” Then went on to perform alongside Muse, Korn, Good Charlotte and 30 Seconds to Mars at the 2008 MyCokeFest .

In 2009 Lonehill Estate’s ballad “Forty” was used in the comedy “Finding Lenny” starring
Barry Hilton. Lonehill has received much criticism for their music being too eclectic in the past so from mid-2009 to mid-2010 the band focused on funnelling their influences into their new sound, represented by “Gangstar” and “Techno Band” which both took #1 on 5fm’s local Pop chart. Gangstar achieved top 10 status on 5fm’s top 40 and it’s video achieved high rotation on MK89.
Their follow up single, Technoband, reached #5 on the 5fm Top Forty chart and is, to date, one of the band’s most successful releases.
Single three, The Green Pocket, also achieved chart success nationally and is, lyrically, social commentary on mankind versus nature. Single four, DAANS! is epitomises the band’s blend of playful rock and electronica and got to number 1 on the 5fm charts in November 2011.
Lonehill’s strategy was initially to release digital singles as opposed to a full album to create an infinite production line that pumps out cutting edge music and their tracks are currently available on-line internationally. However, the demand from fans was so overwhelming that their third full length studio album was released in May 2012.
In August 2011, after Lonehill Estate released the high energy, quirky electro-pop track DAANS! which remained on the 5fm charts for over 3 months, the band were acknowledged internationally and in October 2011, the group signed a development deal with Los Angeles –based music agency, A&R Worldwide. The California music company have been following South African talent for a few years and approached the band after the success of their songs, Gangstar, Technoband and Daans!
A&R Worldwide is renowned for its ability to discover and/or develop talent, playing a key role in assisting artists with multiple needs well before their local, regional, national and/or international successes. Over the years A&R Worldwide and its team have assisted with brokering well over a hundred deals, including signing, licensing, synch placements, publishing, booking agent, management, brand tie-ins and key media support, etc. and has worked with artists including Coldplay, Dido, Keane, Lily Allen, Ting Tings, Duffy, Faithless, Sia, Muse, Missy Higgins, Bonnie McKee, Fatboy Slim and Sugababes, to name a few.
As a result of the success that A&R Worldwide achieved with the band internationally, with airplay in the US, Germany and Japan, the band were invited to perform at Musexpo and The Viper Room in Los Angeles in April and May. The band subsequently were invited to perform in Switzerland at the prestigious Montreux Jazz Festival, in a market that has already embraced the band at radio.
In 2012, the band saw yet another number one single, this time coupling with their fellow Electromode stable mate, JR on the track LOOK GOOD. The music video chronicles life on the road – locally and abroad.
The last single from the band’s third studio album, Zombie Apocalypse showed a heavier side of the neon pop group, who designed an entire music video with animated drawings penned from Nathan Ro’s brush, costing all of R512 to make.
