Kate Lovemore shares her modeling secrets
Kate when did you first discover that you had a passion for modeling, and why do you have this passion?
I discovered ramp modeling at a very young age which I still love and then got into the photographic modeling as I got older and more comfortable with my body. I love being in front of the camera and seeing a photographer’s story come to life. I also really enjoy the ramp modeling because I love being on stage. I did ballet for 15 years and performing is a passion of mine.
How would you compare Durban models to Johannesburg and International models, are there a huge difference?
Durban has beautiful girls but we are just a little laid back here. I have noticed more and more talent coming out of Durban and that makes me extremely proud! All models have their insecurities no matter where you are from but I have to say South Africa is certainly producing gorgeous girls!
Is there a huge stereotype for female models in today’s day and age?
I have noticed that there is still the stereotype that girls think they need to be super skinny and I don’t think that will ever change. But I’m glad to see more girls going for the curvy swimsuit model look. Like all the new ads say “strong is the new sexy”. It doesn’t mean you have to be a bodybuilder, just look after yourself and stay healthy.
What’s the best part of being a female model?
The female form is so beautiful and we can use our bodies to promote so many causes. There are so many opportunities out there for female models. The gorgeous clothes and shoes we get to wear as well as makeup and hair products we get given.
What has been your best modeling experience?
When I got the call to say I was going to be the Playmate for March 2012.
What was your favourite photo-shoot, who was the photographer and what made it different from other photo-shoots?
I would have to say my Playboy South Africa shoot. The photographer was Jade Rabie. I was in my element. Naked and on the beach in Cape Town – who could ask for more. I am a beach lover and would trade clothing for a bikini any day. It was a beautiful hot day and I realized my dream was coming true to be in Playboy.
What advice can you give young models that would like to enter the industry?
Don’t let anyone knock you down! If you believe in yourself you can reach your goal. I’ve been turned down by many agencies but still got what I wanted and more.
Please share a few of your successes with us?
BA Degree in Media and Comm. / Miss Gateway / 2nd princess in Miss Southern Comfort / Miss March Playmate 2012 / 1st in Oakley One Wave Wonder 2011 (I filmed the winning ride).
What’s your favourite quote of all time?
Dance like no one is watching / No one puts baby in a corner (my nickname is Baby).
The modeling industry is known to be brutal at times, and tends to bruise ones ego. What steps do you take in order for you to rise above harsh comments and remarks?
To be quite honest they hurt at first but then I use the criticism to become a better model. If the comments are from people who are just being rude to be nasty I ignore those. They are not worth my time or energy.
How can people get hold of you?
Preferably by email as mentioned above or on Facebook. You can follow me on twitter @katebabylovemor
What are your plans for the future as a model?
I am hoping to do more shoots and make it onto a Billboard one day. Otherwise to make it into the other Playboys around the world. I would love to be named Playmate of The Year in 2013.
