Why did you choose Body-building as a sport, and what do you love about the sport?
I have always been fascinated with the anatomy of the body, whether it be male or female. To grow and alter our body’s muscles by form of diet and exercises I find is amazing.
The biggest thing I love about the sport is that I have become disciplined, self motivated and goal orientated. As many hours as I’ve given to my work outs in the gym, its given me back 100 times in the sense of values and stability. It has made me a better person.
How does a normal day of training look like to you, in other words how many days a week do you train and for how long?
I train six times a week and have one day off. I find it so important to have that rest day as your body needs to recuperate. I sometimes train twice a day depending how my body is feeling. I start with cardio in the mornings then do my weight training in the afternoon.
Do you have a trainer, if yes who is the trainer?
I have a personal trainer. I train with IFBB PRO Marius Dohne. You can never know everything in this sport and it’s so important to have a mentor that has done the sport and excelled in it to show you the way.
PLEASE BE CAREFUL when choosing a personal trainer!!! Look at the personal trainer, is his or her body what you want yours to look like. Do they have the credentials? What have they achieved? This is your body and health you are letting some one else play with.
Please provide us with the basic important steps to Bodybuilding?
I cannot stress the importance of your diet and the times you eat. Have your meals ready for the day and make sure you eat every 2 to 3 hrs. There is no excuse for not eating properly; you just make excuses through laziness.
- Consume water. I drink 4 + liters a day.
- Sleep is so important as you only grow when you sleep.
- Train hard and train properly.
- Don’t just listen to everyone in the gym. People are so misleading and ill informed. This in turn could be detrimental to your health.
Where do you train?
I train at the Virgin Actives. Mostly at Moses Mabhida and La Lucia.
Do you have any sponsors, and how can people sponsor you?
I’m sponsored by BTD (Born to Dominate) clothing range.
Do you use supplements, if yes please share and tell us how they help you with your training?
I believe in a good Whey protein shake, Pre-workout and vitamin supplements. If your diet is right and you are eating the right foods you will get more than enough of what your body needs to work.
Do you follow a special diet, and if yes, please share with us your basic healthy eating plan?
This is where the heart of body building and where all the secrets are. Eating is 100% and your gym training is a 100%. Without either you will not progress in gym.

Please tell us more about yourself?
As a child I always battled with a weight problem. When I was 16 I weighed in at 115kg, the bottom line was I was lazy and didn’t stop eating bad food. I tried every diet out there and always failed in the end as a result of lack of effort. When I hit my early 20’s a good friend of mine who was training me at the time gave me a calorie book and told me before I eat something I must read up about it. That was the turning point where I changed my life and my body. My belief is you can’t do something without understanding it first. So with a calorie book I saw how bad that piece of food was before eating it.
I trained and got into shape for the next couple of years and decided I wanted to enter a bodybuilding show. I joined IFBB PRO Marius Dohne and he totally transformed my body in a couple of months. I entered my first show which was an open category and came 4th out of 13th competitors. I was very happy with my placing as I entered against veterans who have been competing for years and it was my first time.
I am truly lucky that I have such a supportive Girlfriend who is also a regular competitor and shares the love of the sport with me. She recently placed first at NABBA provincials and won the overalls line up as well. She is a huge inspiration to me and her determination to excel drives me as well.
