Mountain biking at Avianto
What better way to spend Chistmas morning than trying out a new mtb trail.
This particular one was designed by Richard Beswick and is due to be made an official, paid for track, in mid Jan.
We started a little late so it was pretty warm already. There were 2 options, the green route or the blue route. The latter being the 15km and the one we opted for.
Who knew you could cram so much fast flowing single track into a square kilometre. We wizzed around corners up and down the hill switcing backwards and forwards through the long grass and eventually made it to the top of the hill. The trail starts nice and easy and slowly prgresses to being more technical with some decent climbs and rocky terreign. Then you reach the black route option. Piece of cake I thought to myself….and promtptly had to stop and push my bike round a rocky drop off. Needless to say the black route was challenging and quite a rush. Not for sissies or beginners.
We then snaked up another grassy hill and down again into some trees and onto an old mine rail track. Complete with tunnel….so cool!! No really…so cool out of the midday sun and into shade. This was already the last 3 kms of the ride and we snaked along under tree canopies along a river and all too soon popped out at the start again. Where we met a few other riders cooling their feet in a perfectly situated dam. Who.coukd ask.for more.A great little trail and a dip pond to cool off in at the end of a sizzling ride.
