Cape Town’s Oude Molen Millstone Farm Stall & Eco Village
Only ten minutes from the busy Cape Town CBD, the Millstone Farm Stall and Café has become a weekend delight for many families and children. Read more on how to get there below.
The Millstone Farm stall and Café at the Oude Molen Eco Village in Mowbray / Pinelands has built up a strong reputation over the last couple of years as being the farm in the city where each member of the family can be entertained whether it be feeding a pig, taking a horse or pony ride along the Black River, playing games in a rustic tree house or buying home – made jam and drinking cappuccino’s in the Millstone Farm stall and Café.
Open from Tuesdays to Sundays, The Millstone Farm Stall and Café is your perfect escape from the city where children can play and engage with nature in a typical Farm House scenario.
Not only do they offer holiday programs, entertainment and great learning opportunities for kids, but The Millstone Farm Stall and Café are a great venue to host birthday parties, functions and even rustic style weddings.
Famous for their daily wood-fired breads and home grown organic produce, The Oude Molen Eco Village can be described as a healthy, fresh and unique stop over on any traveller’s itinerary. The Eco Village has a very rich heritage having been a military barracks, an old mental asylum and even the original grazing fields for the Khoi’s cattle before the colonial occupation in 1695, yet now the Millstone Farm Stall and Café has become the magical getaway where one can still ride in a romantic carriage, jump on an old wagon or play in a soft meadow alongside the river.
By 09h00 the doors open and The Millstone Farm stall and Café’s breakfasts are ready to order. Opt for a cup of coffee or one of their delicious freshly squeezed juices. Later during the day, their great Lunch menu with fresh and organic meals are available and for the more carnivorous inclined folk, their homemade sausage and other meaty treats are absolutely mouth-watering. Make sure to buy some delicious preservatives, jams or olives before they close at 17h00 (by which time the kids would anyway be exhausted and you’d be more than happy to head back home after a day filled with excitement).
The Cape Town city buzz can thus not only be ascribed to the cars, café’s and cosmopolitan hotspots but also to the in-city buzz of the beetles, bees & cockerels nestling at dusk into their own natural environment at The Millstone Farm Stall and Café.
