Quality that makes the taste buds run wild....

Marcelino The Bakery
It has taken Cape Town by storm, with the most delectable freshly baked treats one can wish for...

Marcelino The Bakery opened in March 2010

at the mountain end of Loop Street.

The shop is glass fronted with a very contemporary feel contrasted by tall wooden antique tables and stools outside on the pavement for casual coffee drinking and pastry eating whilst watching the world go by. Or go inside and sit n the intimate space at the entrance to the bakery, enjoy your coffee, read the paper and chat to your neighbour.

The bakery inside is huge with an open plan lay-out so you can watch the delicious creations evolve before your very eyes.

The staff are simply delightful with big shining smiles no matter what time of day.

The owner, Marcelino Siljeur worked for Zerbans in Sea Point and the Garden Centre and completed his apprenticeship at New York Bagels.

Marcelino then moved to Zambia to open a bakery there and thank goodness for us, returned to Cape Town to work at the French Confectionery before enrolling at the Chef’s School at Zevenwacht. He saw the hospitality industry as a new challenge and wanted to obtain a formal qualification.

He worked at the Cape Town International Convention Centre after completing his course and then worked on the QE 2 as patissier, followed by a stint as Product Developer at Pick ‘n Pay, a baker at Ille de Pain in Knysna and Cassis, giving him an excellent rounding in baking and pastry-making.

The bakery has taken Cape Town by storm, with the most delectable freshly baked breads and rolls, sweet treats, savoury lunches and especially good coffee!

Marcelino hopes to expand into the adjacent space and set up a restaurant section there.
