Six Tips for Moving House
Moving house is an exciting adventure.
You get to make new memories in a new home. However, moving can also be a stressful time, as you struggle to put all your belongings into boxes, find the right moving company and ensure that everyone keeps up with the tight moving schedule.
In order to keep your head above water during this time, you need to be well prepared for the move.
Here are some moving tips to help you during this stressful period:
Make a list: The first step to moving house is writing everything down. Before putting items into a box, make a list of what is going into the box and what room the box is going to in the new house. This will ensure that you do not go digging through all the boxes to find where you put the cutlery or bedding. Remember, the more comprehensive the list, the less stressful the unpacking will be.
Order plenty supplies: When placing an order for boxes, tape, bubble wrap and packaging foam with a local packaging suppliers ensure that you have enough supplies. Nothing slows down or interrupts a move faster than running out of boxes, tape or packaging foam. Ensure that you have about ten extra packaging boxes set aside, in case you forgot about items in the back of cupboards or in the downstairs cellar.
Colour coordinate: Designate a colour for each room of the new house, such as yellow for the master bedroom, blue for the kitchen, ect. Apply these colour stickers on the box with the box number to each box. Since you will not be able to be with the movers at every step of the way, this will ensure that the moving company will place the correct boxes and furniture in the correct rooms.
Use your luggage bags: Instead of putting luggage and duffle bags in a separate box, incorporate these bags into the moving process. Use these bags to carry clothing, towels and other day-to-day items. This will ensure that you have quick and easy access to your toothbrush, shampoo, clean clothes and a fresh towel.
Safeguard valuable items: It is a good idea to keep valuable possessions, such as silverware, collectables, antiques and jewellery with you at all times. If you have a long more or there is no room in the car for valuables, ensure that you bury the items in a box names ‘kitchen utensils’ or ‘bathroom supplies’. However, ensure that you first have these items insured, in case the items go missing en route.
Keep important papers with you: When moving house, you need to always keep certain items on you at all times. These items include birth certificates, identification documents, bank statements and records, contact details and the house purchase order. These items are extremely important to keep with you, as you cannot afford to lose them nor have these items stolen.
Moving can be a rather stressful time in your life. Ensure that you plan ahead and use a reputable moving company to help make the move easier and faster.
