STYLISHLY SIMPLE KITCHEN DESIGNS TO INSPIRE AT THIS YEAR’S DECOREX CAPE TOWN
Four local kitchen designers have been tasked with incorporating the ‘Simplicity in Design’ theme while creating a user-friendly space for the home at this year’s Decorex Cape Town Franke Kitchen Design Project running from 27 to 30 April.
This popular kitchen feature – endorsed by The Kitchen Specialists Association (KSA) – will see leading Western Cape kitchen designers; Hollywood Kitchens, Unique Kitchens and Gardner Interior Concepts, crafting aspirational kitchen models using quality products supplied by Franke SA.
“It’s always exciting to see what interesting designs emanate from the Western Cape,” said Franke SA’s National Sales Manager, Clinton Soutter. “After months of preparation, they are given prime space to interpret this year’s hottest trends, maximising on the area provided with a functional, yet enchanting kitchen feature.”
Besides centring the installation around the ‘Simplicity in Design’ theme with the inclusion of the latest Franke products, each designer is given creative space to craft an eye-catching yet practical kitchen which will be critically judged by representatives from both Franke SA and KSA on various criteria. These include overall appeal, utilisation of space, kitchen flow, user-friendliness and quality of materials used. Once the final decision has been made, the winner will be awarded an incredible R10 000 worth of Franke SA products as well as invaluable ongoing support following the event.
“There are so many exciting developments in design and products within the kitchen industry and it is always interesting to see how these are incorporated by various experts in the field,” said Stephanie Forbes, National Manager of KSA. “The kitchen is central to every home which is why Franke Kitchen Design Project is such an integral feature of the Decorex SA events. It’s always a privilege to be involved in this feature which brings so many of our KSA members together for meaningful exchange.”
Winner of the 2016 Decorex Cape Town Franke Kitchen Design Project is Tokai-based Holly Wood Kitchens, returning to this year’s edition for another chance to claim the sought-after top spot.
“We really enjoyed the experience last year and received such positive feedback from the public so it’s great to be returning to this year’s show,” said Vince Muir of Holly Wood Kitchens, specialists in freestanding kitchens. “This year we’re seeing dark colours, raw wood and marble trending alongside some really interesting lighting options.”
Commenting on the 2017 installation, Muir said: “We’re using slightly different construction materials for this year’s exhibit and will be incorporating Caesarstone in some very interesting ways. We’re also launching a new range of Holly Wood kitchen accessories that visitors won’t want to miss.”
After receiving an overwhelmingly positive response to the 2015 Decorex Joburg exhibition, Unique Kitchens – one of the leading manufacturers of kitchen products in the Western Cape – is excited to be participating in the 2017 Franke Kitchen Design Project. Although the Brackenfell-based organisation is not giving away any details about this year’s design, Unique Kitchens will certainly be incorporating the in-demand ‘duco finish’ into their kitchen stand.
And building on a very successful exhibition and feature stand at last year’s contest is Cape Town-based Gardner Interior Concepts and its highly skilled team of craftsman.
“We’re seeing a lot of monochromatic tones in colour choices with much more focus being placed on contrasting textures and materials,” said Steven Turton of Gardner Interior Concepts, commenting on kitchen trends coming through. “Earthy hues blended with high-impact colours are showcased with decorative items that can be easily, and cost-effectively, updated. Natural grain timber and various grain-effected finishes are also being incorporated into feature areas. And the shaker-style door and slab drawer combination, which are still predominantly paired with a painted finish, are now trending towards a more modern style that sees thinner worktops and handle-less entry.”
Turton said the ‘Simplicity in Design’ theme will be brought to life with a modern rendition of classical style. “By incorporating a blend of European trends and local craftsmanship, we’ll be focusing on clean lines, timeless doors and the warm grain timber accents. Our goal is to provide an interactive environment which is inviting to the senses.”
The fourth and final participants in the Franke Kitchen Design Project are Ayesha Cupboards, who will be enjoying their inaugural exhibition at the Decorex Cape Town event.
Commenting on upcoming trends, business owner, Billy Rossouw, said people can expect to see gloss finishes with an array of colours being used in conjunction. “This can work very well in modern kitchens where we like to emphasise a classy look in a setting that is comfortable to work with.”
