Rondebosch laptop thief arrested
Police in Rondebosch have arrested a suspect after he allegedly tried to steal a laptop from a residence in Grosvenor Road, on Thursday 16 June.
ADT Security’s monitoring center received a call for assistance from one of its clients at around 16h21, informing them that someone had just broken into her home and stolen a laptop. She requested armed response to be deployed.
“We dispatched two of our patrol vehicles to the property. On their arrival, our client informed our officers that the suspect had fled the scene with the stolen laptop but that her husband was following the alleged thief. She also provided a description of the suspect to the armed response officer, who started searching the neighborhood,” said ADT Security’s District Manager (Cape Town South) Mr Jade Hanning.
While searching the area, the armed response officers noticed a person matching the description provided by the home owner. The suspect tried to evade apprehension but was taken into custody a short while later, where he was hiding in an empty building. A bag with the stolen laptop was recovered and returned to the home owner.
“This story had a happy ending because our officers were given an accurate description of the alleged suspect, which ultimately made it possible for them to locate him and hand him over to the Rondebosch SAPS. I am very proud also of our officers for their rapid response which further ensured that the suspect could not get away,” said Hanning.
