Another boost for safety in CT N-Subs
The northern suburbs of Cape Town have welcomed its newest community safety organization. The Hoheizen Neighbourhood Watch (HNW) has been set up to cover the area and suburb of Hoheizen, which has only one entrance and exit. Hoheizen borders the N1 freeway, Stellenbosch Business School, Loevenstein and Welgemoed.
“Ordinary people simply cannot afford to hide behind their doors or gates anymore and expect the police and security companies to solve crime on their own. You and I can make a contribution as well,” said Des Willows, the chairman of the HNW.
“We have already signed up 7 members for the HNW and invite other residents who are interested to make contact and ensure their neighbourhood remains safe.”
The HNW this week received a donation of high visibility reflective vests, canisters of pepper spray, lanyards and stationary from our main sponsor ADT Security. The company also installed a License Plate Recognition (LPR) camera, which is linked to the Durbanville Camera Initiative control room in the Durbanville CBD. This camera system was made possible by donations from residents of Hoheizen and the City of Cape Town.
“Community Watch organizations such as the HNW play an incredibly important role in the safety and security of our neighbourhoods. The SAPS have the best of intentions but with limited resources they simply cannot be everywhere, all the time. Private security companies can help fill that gap but it is when community watches are formed that a real difference is achieved,” said ADT Security’s District Manager (Cape Town North) Verena Hulme.
There are a number of ways in which residents can get involved with the HNW, said Willows.
“We need all types of assistance – from patrollers to our “eyes and ears” initiative, administrative help or financial contributions. Anyone looking for information or who wants to join the HNW team can contact me on 084 919 1443 or via email on desw@telkomsa.net. Together we can make a difference in fighting crime and keeping our suburb safe.”
