What to do in summer in Cape Town
We’re slowly crawling out the cold and misery of Winter and into Spring. We’ll soon enter Summer. It’s been a particularly wet season, but we’ll soon see the benefits as South Africa lights up with its flowers and grasslands.
As we start leaving the cold months, we should begin wondering what activities we can do in and around Cape Town. Since activities no longer have to be indoors or undercover, we have access to so much more.
Sailing and cruises
The gorgeous waters of Cape Town are ideal for cruises. One of the more affordable options is the Mirage luxury Catamaran. With prices ranging from R400 upwards, we can enjoy two hours of luxury on the sea, whether it’s wine and pairing events or sunset cruises.
The V&A Waterfront itself offers a range of cruises, with very affordable prices. Simply see what’s available within the specific timeframe and price range.
Theatre
Sticking to the Waterfront area, we should also consider performances such as the ones held at the Rockwell Theatre. Whether it’s world-class performers like jazz musician Jeremy Olivier or dinner theatre from a range of acts, we can get a wide variety of options here. Theatre isn’t merely dramatic arts after all and everyone has a particular performance they love to see on stage.
Food, food, food
But of course everyone needs to eat and Cape Town’s cultural diversity has proven perfect for having tongues travel the world. On the 4th September, the Street Food Festival provides us with food talks, while sitting at a table filled with delicious delicacies.
Kites galore
Toward the end of October, we can experience the wonder and beauty of kites at the Cape Town International Kite Festival. This is in fact the biggest kite festival on the continent. Professional kite flyers will be showing off their skills and beautiful creations for the crowd. There will also be prizes, workshops and numerous other kite-related activities for everyone. We could also take a chance and bring our own kite, though that might seem initially intimidating.
This is however a festival aimed at fun and raising awareness of mental health issues.
These are just some of the incredible activities in and around Cape Town, coming up in the warmer days. Whether we want to go by ourselves or with our families, there are so many activities, it’s a matter of choosing which to skip rather than which to attend!
