Tips for mastering a family road trip
Beautiful sunny summer holidays call for road trips and there’s no better feeling than driving away to some beautiful location while leaving your responsibilities in the dust.
Your body could be crying out for a vacation because you’ve been caught up in the daily grind.
Waking up, going to the gym and then work. And repeating the same thing all over again the next day.
So, you may have decided to go on a road trip, to take a much-needed break.
Road trips are the best because you never know what adventures you could experience along the way. You might come across villages, interesting locals, beautiful rolling hills and gorgeous waterfalls that make a perfect backdrop.
Drives in a car can be long and tedious but you can spice up your trip by hopping onto a recreational vehicle. It’s a hotel on wheels, you’ll have a shower and if you need to lie down, there’ll be a bed at your disposal.
Here are seven things you could encounter while preparing for a road trip with your family.
Inspection
Before any trip, you should always take your car for a service. Make sure it’s roadworthy so you can put your family’s safety first. If you take it to a repair shop, the mechanic can check things such as the engine, tyres, and brake fluids. They’ll also be able to see if there’s any leaking fluid in your car that needs to be attended to.
Food
A road trip can be expensive because you’ll need to fill up the tank along the way. So, why don’t you save up on food by making delicious sandwiches everyone will enjoy? You can also do your research beforehand on restaurants you’ll find on your journey that offers affordable food. Or you could ask the local people.
Bonding
Road trips are perfect for catching up with those closest to you. You could be working long hours each day and the kids could be busy with school and extracurricular activities that keep them active. Road trips may lead to bonding sessions because you’ll be spending so much time together in a confined space. People tend to overshare after a few hours stuck in a small space, so the road trip should draw you closer.
Accessories
Recreational cars come with many accessories. Kids get bored easily and some cars come with flat screens and sound systems, and your children will be entertained because they’ll be able to watch cartoons and play video games.
Just make sure that you also switch off the TV every now and again so you don’t miss out on family time. If your family spends the entire trip glued to the TV, you might as well have stayed at home.
When you’re travelling, you need a lot of water along the way and you may need the toilet every second. When you’re in a recreational car you won’t have to stop at every turn because of a passenger crying out that they need to go to the toilet.
First aid kit
We can never predict when an accident will happen. And you need to make sure you’re prepared for all eventualities, for example, if your child cuts themselves, you’ll need a plaster or bandage.
No phone calls
When you’re travelling you should cut yourself off from the outside world and especially anything that’s related to work. You can completely recharge and unplug for a few days and when you get back to work you’ll be completely refreshed.
Limitless
When you’re on a plane or bus you’re limited to a set schedule. But when you decide to drive yourself, the possibilities of what you can do are endless. You can be spontaneous. For example, if you see a beautiful river you can have a good swim or take a walk the woods or stop to sit and eat at a restaurant.
Cheaper
Flights are expensive and if you’re travelling as a big group, it may cost you an arm and a leg. Driving would be a better option because it’ll be affordable. Purchasing a recreational vehicle may seem extravagant but the memories you’ll share will be priceless. If you’re on a budget you can buy a secondhand through an auction or dealership and finance your recreational car through a bank loan or savings.
Road trips can be a fun way to spend time with friends and family while enjoying the beautiful scenery. It’s perfect for escaping our daily routines and just having fun.You could decide to go camping and be up close and personal with nature and take in the soothing sounds of the wind rustling against the trees. Or you drive to a place near a beach.
Wherever you decide to go, you should make it an experience you won’t ever forget.
