The best way to pack your luggage
Are you about to travel around the world? Or perhaps just breaking away for the weekend?
That brings you to that stressful task: packing. It doesn’t matter where you’re heading, at some stage you have to do it.
Some travellers plan what they’re taking weeks in advance while others decide the day before they leave.
Pack according to the weather, your destination and the activities you’ll be doing. Be sure to check out the type of season the city’s having. You don’t want to pack summer clothes only to find that it’s the rainy season at your destination.
Make sure you provide yourself with plenty of time to pack. Don’t leave your packing until the night before. The more time you have to pack, the less unnecessary items you’ll pack instead of necessary ones. Condense your suitcase so it’s more organised and easy to travel with. Pack all your valuable items, like your laptop, cell phone and passport, in your carry-on bag for easy access. Check out hand luggage sizes and get one if you don’t already have one, it’s always useful for travelling.
Here are a few tips to consider when packing your luggage to ensure you don’t miss a thing.
Make a list
Worried you might leave something behind? Prepare a list of all the things you want to bring along on your holiday. This way you won’t forget anything at home. You can make this list in advance to give you enough time to add anything else to it. Divide the list into different compartments, for your clothes, toiletries, travel items and maybe entertainment. It all depends on what you want to take with on your trip. Make a to-do list and add all the stuff you need to complete before your trip. Then you can move on to drafting a checklist to tick off whether you have all your essentials.
Roll and vacuum clothes
Arriving at your destination with a pile of ironing doesn’t sound like a fun idea, right? Make time to iron and vacuum seal your clothing before heading off. To save space and prevent creasing, roll up your clothes instead of folding. If you’re smart enough, you can place your clothes in a vacuum compression bag to keep it neat, tidy and all together. Make sure to follow the instructions on how to use these bags. This will leave you with much more space in your suitcase and will prevent creases more effectively than folding.
Have a day to day plan
The biggest mistake you can make when going away for a few days is over-packing. Pack according to the the number of days you’ll be away for. For instance, if you’re going away for seven days then you need to pack enough clothes for those specific days and not nine days. Also, just because you’re packing for a long trip doesn’t mean you have to pack more than what you would on a one week vacation. Eight pieces of clothing can make fifteen different outfits. Avoid over-packing at all times. After all, if your bag is bursting on your way to your destination, where will you pack all the new goodies that you buy on your holiday?
Check the weather
The weather is the single factor most likely to affect your holiday, either in a positive or negative way. A weather forecast can guide your packing strategy. If you don’t check the weather before leaving, you might find yourself in a very difficult position. You’ll then have to spend money on clothing where you could’ve used it for something else. If the forecast says it’s going to be sunny and hot throughout your holiday, then you know you should pack shorts and shirts. However, it tends to get cooler at night, always take a hoody with.
Your shoes
Shoes can sometimes be a nightmare to pack because of the different shapes and sizes. Don’t leave your shoe packing to the last minute. In fact, select your shoes first so you can estimate how much space you need to leave available for your clothes and toiletries. While you may want to bring your whole shoe collection on your trip, you should think about the activities you’ll be doing. If you’re just going to hang around on the beach or in the mountains then you don’t need to take your heels or wedges.
Going away for a few days is the best. You’ll have time to forget about everything, relax and do what brings you pleasure. Research your destination before heading off. Using these tips will leave you left with plenty available space for souvenirs, gifts and such
