It’s buzzing at the Bay Harbour Market
For years the “Snoekies” Fish Factory and the well-known “Fish on the Rocks” take-Away were the only reason one would really drive further than Mariner’s Wharf to Hout Bay Harbour.
Recently though, the new Bay Harbour Market has been drawing Capetonians towards the Sentinal Mountain and the word on eveyone’s lips concerning the market is simply this…
…the vibe is just sommer lekker!
Every weekend the old fish factory comes alive, the market opens her gates to the public and Capetonians and tourists alike both young and old get drawn in by all the tempting food aromas, the fashion, art and of course the fabulous authentic & delightful ambience of Bay Harbour Market.
There is a vibrant South African feel to the festive market as most of the art, crafts and fashion are unique, handmade or locally produced. The Hout Bay Market however brings light to the fact that South Africa is home to many influences from around the world when walking past food stalls and stumbles upon delicious bites, nibbles or delicacies from a Chinese chop suey, to an Indian curry, jaffles served by a boere tannie or even delicious and sweet amusingly named flapjack-pancakes by the Dutch chef…
After reaching out for a jug of craft beer, or glass of Champaign and adding a fresh salty oyster or lamb meatball to one’s plate, relax at one of the long benched tables next to a stranger and share in the spirit of the open market…
With over 100 stalls catering for the whole family, the Bay Harbour Market has certainly shown a selection of great variety and diversity. While the men huddle around the bar and the women delight at the fabric, fashion and gourmet treats, the children are entertained by clowns folding balloons into shapes of swords & poodles.
Whilst laughing at friends or feasting on a lobster, the live music leaves toes tapping and fingers clicking to the jazz trumpet’s staccato sounds bouncing off the walls of the old factory building.
All in all the Bay Harbour Market is a highlight for both young and old, and needs no fishing for compliments as her reputation precedes her as an energetic and creative experience that is here to stay.
