Moving to the mother city
Everyone wants to move to Cape Town. Or, at least, that’s what Capetonians think.
And why wouldn’t we? We have that world-renowned mountain, a few blue flag beaches and a nightlife that will make sleeping all of Sunday well worth it. There’s so much to do, so many people to meet and the whole of the Western Cape to explore. It really is a great place to live.
So, if you’ve made the brilliant decision to move to Cape Town, here are a few tips to make the transition a little easier.
Before you move
If you’ve got a job waiting for you in Cape Town, find a place to live close to work. There are many amazing things about this beautiful city but the traffic isn’t one of them. If you’re young and unattached, there are many places in and an around the CBD you can rent. But if you’ve got a family, it may be better to hang up your curtains and set up home in the suburbs.
Get to know your hood
During your first week you need to explore. Figure out what’s available to you in your neighbourhood. Find out where you can buy your groceries and get awesome takeout. Discover the scene in and around where you’re living. If you’re into music, check out the local live music venues (they’re littered all over Kaapstad). And, as you already know, the art scene is expansive in CT. Get to know what’s available in your area because each area has its own special charm.
Treat yourself to all of the Western Cape
Whether you’re a nature lover, a party-goer or a creative, the Western Cape has something for everyone. After you’ve explored your neighbourhood, it’s time to set out and discover all the province has to offer. Take a few weekends and head out to the different quaint coastal villages and inland treasures. Don’t be one of those people who sticks to their comfort zone. Get out the house, escape the office and go on a road trip (or six). And if you’re a wine fanatic, you’ve moved to right place. Whether you’re into your dry whites or deep reds, you’ll find the wine farm that fits your tasting needs.
Welcome to the greatest city on earth. You’ve made the right decision. Now get out there and enjoy all the Mother City and surrounding areas have to offer.
