Lifehacks for the home
We all want to live a more efficient life. One way we can do this is to find simpler, faster ways to accomplish specific tasks. Commonly known as “lifehacks”, these usually involve smart, fancy ways to accomplish goals. These can also be fun ways to do banal tasks. In this way we not only do them faster but more willingly. Here are some to apply at home.
Fold a T-shirt in two seconds
One of the most popular lifehacks is the super quick folding of T-shirts. As this video demonstrates, it’s possible to take a shirt and, with two pulls, have a perfectly folded shirt. This folding takes less than two seconds. The folded shirt emerges in our hands like magic and makes this boring task more fun. While it’s tricky initially, like all things, practice makes perfect. Of course, the timing is deceptive – we still need to lay the shirts on a flat surface beforehand.
Clean the microwave without touching it
One of the most annoying appliances to clean in the home is the microwave. A simple method to combat this is to use a dish cloth soaked in soapy water. As SnapGuide points out, simply place it in the centre of the microwave, turn it on (while monitoring carefully), watch as the steam starts to clean. Then we simply wipe off the mess.
Bed cheats
Everyone gets annoyed when their spouse or partner pulls on the duvet covers. Called “Cover Clamps”, these incredible but simple devices stop someone dominating the covers from the bed. As the Huffington Post highlights, the Cover Clamp:
“lets you clamp the duvet to your side of the bed, so that your thief of a partner can’t steal the covers in the middle of the night.”
We don’t need to fight for our share in the middle of the night. This is helpful since so often our partner’s do so unintentionally, while sleeping and rolling around.
Bin hacks
One problem many people have is lining their bin. An idea idea is to tie a cord around the bag, over the top of the bin, to keep it place. This prevents it from sagging and falling into the bin container itself. One suggestion is to use a Command Strip, since this is strong and wide enough to hold it in place.
