Growing support for entrepreneurship
GROWING IMPETUS FOR ENTREPRENEURSHIP EDUCATION IN SA SCHOOLS
Are entrepreneurs born or made? This is a question asked almost every time some of the world’s most successful entrepreneurs get an opportunity to engage in Q&A sessions on public platforms.
Popular opinion seems to suggest that entrepreneurs are ‘just born with it’; however there is a growing understanding from governments around the world that entrepreneurship skills can and must be taught and needs to be done from a young age.
SA Teen Entrepreneur Foundation has been working for the past 4 years lobbying various private sector companies and government institutions with the aim of partnering to promote a culture of entrepreneurship with SA teens.
The Foundation runs a number of programmes to this end, including the Awaken the Giant in You breakfast series. The breakfast series creates a platform for information to be transferred from those that have walked the journey in business to young people, their parents and community leaders who still desire to see the creation of economic opportunity and social transformation in South Africa through entrepreneurship and the development of entrepreneurial ecosystems.
The next breakfast in the series is taking place on Saturday 14 November 2015 at 08h00 at the Southern Sun hotel, Newlands Cape Town.
“We are pleased to share the platform with Gabriella Geffen from the HRDC Enabling Entrepreneurship National Task Team at the Maharishi Institute and Craig Hoggins from the Online Marketing Guys,” said Lydia Zingoni Founder and Director or the SA Teen Entrepreneur Foundation.
“Gabriella will speak on creating entrepreneur pipelines and ecosystems in communities: a strategy that works and Craig will address the topic of Creating an online business from conception to inception,” Lydia continued.
“Having both these speakers on one platform is an important step in the direction of showing the alignment of government and the private sector in their vision to introduce young people to entrepreneurship from an early age. Their insights and understanding will influence the thinking of their audience regarding shaping the doers, thinkers and change makers of the future South Africa through exposure to entrepreneurial thinking and problem solving,” she continued.
Teen Entrepreneur has pioneered the way by launching the High School Entrepreneur societies in 2014 to establish entrepreneurship within schools. They aim to establish a pipeline from school level for the creation of businesses that will contribute to and grow the South African economy.
The event is open to all who are interested in business, entrepreneurship and youth development.Tickets cost R150 for adults and R75 for students. Bookings for the breakfast can be made on-line at www.teenentrepreneur.co.za / www.webtickets.co.za or by contacting Nadia Snyders on 021 7942767 or nadia.snyders@teenentrepreneur.co.za.
